Brief content Three scenarios of boiler fuel composition and its impact on project of new milk drying unit profitability were analysed. For the purposes of the process analysis, a mathematical model was constructed in Aspen Plus simulation and verified by real operation data. In the first scenario, only natural gas was fed into the boiler. In the second scenario, biogas with addition of natural gas was evaluated. Third scenario represented a case with complete substitution of natural gas with biogas. Conducted study revealed positive effects of biogas use in dairy industry on the project economics, but it also revealed that volatility in milk market prices and variability of biogas composition lead to difficult predictability of project payback period.
