Brief content | Cephalexin is a potent antibiotic produced in an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by penicillin acylase. The reaction is characterized by the appearance of a maximum cephalexin concentration. This is given by the reaction reversibility and the consumption of one of the reactants in a side reaction. To avoid cephalexin loss, we carried out the cephalexin synthesis in a kinetically controlled regime in an aqueous two-phase system (ATPS). The advantage of using an ATPS lies in the continuous product withdrawal and the possibility of valuable enzyme recycling. |
