Brief content We demonstrated that the homogeneous Ru-based catalysts generated in situ from Ru(acac)3 and 10 eq of bidentate Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2 (n = 1 – 3) ligands could be used for selective and quantitativ reduction of furfural to furfuryl alcohol in the absence of co-solvent and additive exhibiting TOF of 6273 h–1. Due to the easier separation of the catalyst, the reduction of furfural was also performed under heterogeneous conditions using in H-Cube® tubular flow reactor, which could be considered as a promising technique for the high-throughput continuous heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation. We also showed the conversion of furfural to furfuryl alcohol in environmentally benign solvents e.g alcohols by applying the H-Cube® system.
